Leadership Team

  • Craig Wanichek, President and CEO

    Craig has served in leadership roles in both banks and private businesses prior to joining the Bank in 2008.  He has over 20 years of banking experience during which he managed significant business relationships in the Willamette Valley.  Craig also served as Director of Investor Services and Treasury for a publically traded manufacturing company.  He currently serves as Chair of the Eugene Chamber of Commerce and previously served on and as chair of the City of Eugene Budget Committee and Cascade Health Solutions.  He is a graduate of the University of Oregon with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics.

  • Scott Goldstein, Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer

    Scott was part of the Bank’s founding Management team in 2003.  He holds a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Southern California with a focus in Portfolio Management and Financial Services.  Prior to the founding of Summit Bank, Scott served as chief financial officer for Bit-by-Bit Computers, Inc. and has held analyst and lender positions with Wells Fargo Bank and Siuslaw Valley Bank.

  • Casey Hill, Senior Vice President & Chief Credit Officer

    As Senior Vice President & Chief Credit Officer at Summit Bank, Casey is the executive tasked with managing the bank’s loan portfolio and credit processes.  In his 10 years in banking, Casey has worked in a variety of banking environments, moving across several states and gaining experience in a very diverse collection of markets. He comes to Summit Bank from Mississippi, where he served as the Sr. VP & Corporate Director of Credit Administration & Credit Quality for a multi-billion dollar banking system spread across four southeastern states.  Casey holds a BBA from Mississippi State University, where he majored in Banking and Finance.  He is a graduate of the Mississippi School of Banking at the University of Mississippi and of the Alabama Commercial Lending School, and is currently pursuing his MBA through the Owen School of Management at Vanderbilt University.

  • Michael Mercer, Senior Vice President, Chief Banking Officer

    Mike has a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a focus in Finance Management from Western Oregon University and over twenty five years of banking experience including branch management, commercial lending and wealth management. Mike serves as the President of the Board for the Boys and Girls Club and has served as President of Junior Achievement and Oregon Club of Eugene-Springfield in addition to A Family for Every Child.   • Gary O’Connell, Market President, Central Oregon Region

    As Market President of our Central Oregon Region, Gary manages all operations in Central Oregon for Summit Bank. Gary has more than 15 years of commercial banking experience. Most recently, Gary was Senior VP, Commercial Banking Team Leader, with a regional bank. Gary is passionate about working with clients and finding solutions that fit what they’re looking for. Autonomy, local decision making, and market knowledge are reasons Gary works for Summit Bank.  Gary is co-founder and Chairman of the local Junior Achievement office and is actively involved in events with Economic Development for Central Oregon.

  • William “Bill” Whalen, Senior Vice President, Chief Lending Officer

    Bill’s affinity for and career in banking began over twenty-five years ago when he graduated from California State University – Long Beach with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. He offers a diverse background in lending, credit administration and management, further complemented by his graduation from the Pacific Coast Bankers’ School. Bill’s knowledge drawn from experience in both large corporate and community banks gives him a unique perspective that makes Bill an exceptional resource for local businesses and community members. Actively engaged in the local Eugene community, Bill serves as a Board Member for CASA of Lane County, is a Vice-Chair of the Eugene Chamber of Commerce’s Local Government Affairs Council, and is a commissioner on the Eugene Police Commission.
